MRS. MARY ARNOLD'S SCHOOL

(Picture unavailable)

In 1897 or 1898 Mrs. Arnold opened a primary school in her home. She was a graduate of the College of the Pacific doing special work in French and writing. Vincent Keeling, Ida Norris, Nellie Ray's children and Charlie Dransfield were among the ones who worked or played there.

There was also a small boy, Mark Chamblin, the son of a doctor. It was said that he was very stubborn, and refused to learn the letter "E".

Mrs. Arnold cut down the legs of chairs so they could be used by the children. Her daughter still had two of them.
